I just got a webcam, a Logitech QuickCam Express (hey, it was cheap), and I'm wondering is there any good software for this on Linux? I just need some picture grabbing software, no live videostreams or such, just pictures really :) Any recommendations? Preferably gtk frontend, but it's not a requirement.

Thanks,

Also, what options do I enable in the kernel (2.2.19) configuration? Do I choose the quickcam colour or black and white option? (since I haven't used it yet I dunno if Quickcam express is colour or b&w) and what sort of other options? It's a USB QuickCam Express.

I've now tried qcam and cqcam programs, but they both can't find the camera, I have just recompiled the kernel with usb support and quickcam support (both b&W and colour as modules) and enabled usb devices in the bios.

Since I've never used one myself, all I can really suggest is you do a search at freshmeat.net or sourceforge.net for any specific software for the webcam.

There's also a NHF on Webcams (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/hardware/ezwebcam.html).

Ill save you some time and effort because I own a Logitech Quickcam Pro, and at the present time there are no drivers/and or software that will work with these cams. The only ones that have any support are the old black and white or colour ones with the parallel port interface.I know its a bummer and its the ONLY reason I still use Windows.

That exact cam works for me and Mandrake 8.0 with the 2.4 Kernel, and using the NHFs webcam doc!

Well I don't know what you did then to get it to work, but I've also followed the NHF, although I used a 2.2.19 (with usb support) kernel, and I still can't get it to work.

I'm beginning to believe ssadams is right.

you could try websites like linuxcam.com or such, for more info.
