I am new to linux...TODAY. I have installed mandrake 8.0 0n a dec 233. All went well except for the fact that my monitor has verticle lines and seems to have a refresh problem. I have installed the correct video driver, s3virge gx, but I am unable to get the correct settings for my digital monitor which is a pcxbv-ez. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
I have adjusted the settings on the monitor as per the documentation, but I still have verticle lines and my mouse has a bar code next to it. PLEH PLEH :(

Did you provide the proper sync & refresh rates to XF86 according to the monitor's docs? If not, then run XF86Setup & go to monitor settings.

these symptoms sound similar to resolutions out of the monitor's range. You may try toning it down a bit, or start at 640x480 and move up.
