I'm having a strange problem with my mouse that I can't seem to fix. As mentioned in the subject, I'm using a MS Intellimouse Explorer with the PS/2 adapter connected. Whenever I launch X, the mouse starts behaving erratically...when I'm using KDE, the arrow jumps to the top-right corner. When I use GNOME, it jumps to the lower-left corner...strange.

Anyway, I searched through the forum and tried what I could find - and understand - such as changing the XF86Setup config file to IMPS/2...that didn't work. Someone else had mentioned something about disabling gpm? I'm still pretty new to Linux and couldn't figure out how to do that.

Does anyone have any idea what I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can disable the gpm by using the setup command as root. Type setup in the prompt and there's ada startup service section or something like that (I'm not using RH anymore, can't remember) go there and disable the gpm service. That works on older RH, I'm not sure about RH 7

I have the same problem in Mandrake 7.1. I have heard that disableing gpm for some people works, but it didn't for me. Linux in X is unusable for me.

I just took out the link to gpm in my RC5.D directory.

Thanks for the responses!

I finally got it working by plugging it into the USB port instead of the PS/2 port. Linux found it and set it up all by itself. In fact, I had more trouble getting it to work from the USB port in Win2K than I did in Linux!

I'm not sure why I didn't try this sooner. I guess it's because I heard Linux & USB didn't play nice...looks like I was WAY wrong.

Anyway, thanks again for the help...now if I could only get the wheel working!
