Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Diamond Rio Utility - 'Operation not permitted'

When I try to use the "rio" program to work with my Diamond Rio 300 player, I get this:

[root@desktop rio107]# ./rio -p 0x278 -d
ioperm() failed, reason 'Operation not permitted'

I've tried different parallel port addresses (the -p option) but to no avail. This program worked fine with Red Hat 6.2, but now I'm using Red Hat 7 with the stock kernel. Another utility I tried, gxrio, gives me a "device not found" error.

Any ideas?
Thx for any help you can provide.

I'm using that stuff almost daily, without problems. Only thing I can think of, maybe you are trying it without being root. It must I/O and that's gotta be root doing it. There's a really good GUI of this, grio I think, and it's the same deal. Have to su and then start it as root.

He's doing it as root.

[root@desktop rio107]# ./rio -p 0x278 -d

See the "root" and the # prompt? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif
