 Hey, ive decided to join the mandrake-linux revolution however, like alot of people, I am suffering from installation problems surrounding partitioning my hard disk. I want to run both Windows ME and Linux on my machine. I run the installation program which (apparently) automatically partitions my hard disk for both file systems. However during the installation program (DrakeX) it reports an error message tellin me that my hard disk is too fragmented and that I should run the defrag program. I have already run this program twice and then reattempted to install only to receive the same message. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. cheers andy cam

This is maybe a long shot but if programs are running when you run defrag then any open files (configuration files, for example) and/or the executable itself will not be moved (is this true?? Im not sure...)

So next time make sure there really isnt anything unessecary running.

What size of hard drive is it anyways?? Im guessing smaller rather than larger for this sort of error...

Its 13GB in total, theres just over 3GB left for linux. (Surely enough ?!?). There wasnt anything running whilst defrag was running (that im aware) I did do it in windows tho. Would I be better doing in in dos?

why don't you partition it manually? you only need two partitions: about 100megs for "swap partition" and the rest of the space remaining for everything else as "linux native" partition.
