I have SuSE Linux Professional 7.0 sitting in the box at home gathering dust. I've gotten to a point where I really like KDE2 (from using the final in MDK7.2) - I would like to try out SuSE, but don't wanna use the KDE2 beta that it comes with... Is there any sort of 'autoupdate' feature to SuSE that I can basically just 'update' the KDE2 beta from the web or downloaded packages or whatever? Biggest thing being all of the dependencies...kind of like apt-get but without apt-get? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Any help is totally appreciated.

PS - at work I just had to put 2k back on my machine... After almost 2 months of nothing but Linux both at home and at work - this bites. And this is the 'good' Windows...

oh well

I'm guessing you can

rpm -Uvh

the mandrake kde2 rpms, which should work. I dont know, I just apt-get http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

I had that same problem with all the dependencies. Try to shut them off, then load everything twice. This sucks ****, I know, but if you want a professional install that handles all dependencies, use Helix-Gnome. This is the best setup you'll get next to apt-get

It's just that after using KDE2, I really don't like Helix all that much anymore. I do love the install script for it tho, as well as the updating ability... very sweet...!!

Thank you.

I got all SuSE specific KDE 2 RPM from the SuSE FTP, check http://www.suse.com/us/support/download/kde2/index.html for more details.
I downloaded all in a folder and used good old YAST to install all them from there.

So you didn't have to go thru and remove all of the beta RPMs first?! YAST will automatically replace them and take care of the dependencies?
