Well, getting very ticked with my Intel board - I will be switching from PIII-800 to a 1.2 Gig T-Bird.

One problem that I have noticed with oc'ing is that I seem to be able to oc Windows faster than Linux or BSD OSes.

Why?

How do I fix this?

The board I will be using is Asus A7V133 with a 266fsb 1.2 Gig T-Bird with a Swiftech MC370-0A heatsink coupled with a YSTech fan (I needed sometime less noisy than the Pabst or Delta). The mb already provides a hsf on the north bridge. However, I will be using Artic SilverII on the cpu HSF. Also, I have air intake and outtake in the case. I might replace the 300W Antec with a 431W Enermax.

You don't. If it does not run stable then it does not run stable. You might try better cooling but I would be very leery of this.

iv heard that linux isnt very overclocking friendly -- why this is i can only put down to the kernel being compiled to suit the CPU more specifically (through various optimisations or whatever)...

Anyway ... if ur gonna be running at 1.2 GHz, what good is that extra 0.1GHz gonna get u?? Sometimes its just ludicrous to overclock when it has the potential to make your system less stable and decrease the lifetime of the processor...

But then thats my opinion....

I have heard that Linux doesn't overclock very well because it is already utilizing the hardware to the maximum potential.....just what I heard somewhere. Not sure how valid that is.

Linux is a bit more picky about it's hardware. A power supply going out may only cause vague problems in Windows while it causes Linux to lock up hardcore. This is probably the case with overclocking. Windows isn't affected as much by the processor's mistakes while Linux is. Simple solution: tone it down a notch.

I've read in a couple of posts from Craig that he removes the side cover and straps a (WalMart) box fan to the case to provide extra cooling.

And no, the oscilitating fans wouldn't work.
