Anyone had experience setting up Linux with raid? I cant find any info about my specific controller.

I have a DPT model PM1554U2 controller and redhat 7. I tried expert install and my controller is not listed. :(

I can't find any reference to it on adaptec's site or on redhat's, closest thing I can find is for SCO Unix 3.2.4.2, Open Desktop 3 and Open Server 5.

I really want to go with linux on this machine cause i'm tired of NT and 2000 and am hoping that linux will give me better performance.

Please help me if you can!!

Thanx :( :(

I don't think the stock kernel that RH installs has support for this kind of controller either built in or as module.I'm sure there's an option in SCSI menu of your kernel configuration for DPT card. This means that you will have to recompile your kernel for it to work.Might want to read the docs at /usr/src/linux/Documention or /usr/src/linux/Documention/scsi or head on to your nearest linuxdoc mirror and read the guides.Hope this helps.

this is what i have: p3 450/256mb w/dpt raid array (former nt4 domain controller)

I want to make it a web/mail/ftp using linux!

(buying another raid controller is not an option)

How do I recompile the kernel if I cant install it on the computer? am i missing something here? Is there a way of compiling the kernel on a bootable floppy so that it will recognize the raid array for installation?

Adaptec has a fairly nice linux section, check it out some time.
