OK, Mandrake 7.2 I have a cdrom and a burner. both are being read, However the burner is listed twice, one on /dev/hdd and the other on dev/scd0 I can use the CDrom on dev/hdc fine but when I make a"shortcut" for the burner and try to access it, say's I don't have permission <i am in ROOT> I am lost here. And yes I am new, be gental :)

It's probably being listed as an SCSI device because Mandrake has likely configured it using SCSI-emulation as is necessary to use the burner.

As far as not being able to access the burner...not sure about that one.

Try this (http://linux.nf/stepbystep.htm) url under CD Burners and Multiple Drives. May help.

Keep in mind that it is for Caldera and specifies loading a 3rd module for SCSI emulation. Do not use the 3rd module for your distro. The rest should help.
