sound card probs Please help a Newbie :)

I have a Yamaha YMF744 PCI sound card and im running Mandrake 8.0 ( useing Gnome) i downloaded the alsa drivers (alsa-driver-0.5.11) i read the instructions on how to install. I go into root and open a terminal and type ls blah blah all goes like the instructions say untill i type ./config it starts the config & then gives me this error msg ... checking for kerel version... expr: syntax error failed (probably missing /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h )

any help on this would be greatly appreciated

You need to install the kernel source rpm for the kernel version your using. Assuming you haven't upgraded your kernel, the soure rpm _should_ be on your CD. Probably called kernel-#version numbers#.src.rpm, or something like that.

Grab your favourite package manager, and search.
