Did anyone manage to boot Linux from the HD with the HD plugged into the ATA100 controller?
If so could you please contact me at
sincka@hotmail.com

Thanx

It matters - Getting Mandrake 7.2 to boot from the Promise ATA-100 controler on an Asus A7V motherboard required passing on some I/O parameters to the kernel on boot www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=460&lang=en (http://www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=460&lang=en) - but Mandrake-8 supports the ATA-100 controler out of the box. Regarding the other ATA-100 controlers the same principle should apply. In addition, IDE RAID support is now available.
Don't worry, I'm sure the next version of Debian will fully support these new disk controlers, possibly even including IDE RAID support.

It should work, just recompile your kernel with this enabled.
in IDE, ATA, and ATAPI Block devices
[ ] Boot off-board chipsets first support
and of course the drivers for your ATA100 card.
I don't boot from mine but this should work
oh, it says put ide=reverse in your lilo.conf file too
then go through and edit /etc/fstab because all your drives will have different letters
