I have OPL3-SAx sound chip on al440lx motherboard.I don't know how to configure it.
It's compiled into my kernel, but it won't work. The messages during the startup are:
Sound initialization started
Found OPL3-SAx (YMF719)
sound initialization compleet
but it doesn't work. What to do?

I have the same motherboard, and the way that I got it working was to compile anything and everything that had an OPL-xxx at the front of it, the generic Sound Blaster card setting, and one or two of the midi settings. This allows it to play CD audio and .wav files, but I have yet to get mp3s working. It comes on with a bunch of staticy crap. I was looking at what it said during bootup, and apparently it will only work in 8-bit mode under Linux (or at least, the way I have it configured that's the only way it will work). Hope that helps, and if you have any luck getting it to work in 16-bit mode please let me know.

I have an OPL3 based sound card and I used pnpdump to find the addresses that I could use for the card. You have to edit the isapnp.conf file to rem and unrem lines to get the appropriate settings. Watch at boot for messages that relate to the sound that fail. These messages will help you tweak the settings to make the card work.
