I have a win 98 fat32 20gig hd that i would like to partition into two sections one 17 gig and the rest for linux, but i don't wanna loose the data on the win partition so i can't just fdisk,it. Does anyone know of a free prog that will do this. I have heard of fips but have never seen any information about someone partitioning a fat32...

GNU Parted available at freshmeat.net should work fine. Just do a search there for parted or even a forum search here will probably find the link for you.

Ever hear of Partition Magic? Supposed to be the best. I forget the URL, but there is even a free version available on line.

I checked Power Quest's site, but the only version of Partition Magic I could find was a demo that only showed what it could do, but didn't do it. Nice to look at but doesn't do diddly.

I believe fips splits your drive in half. So, you'd end up with two 10G partitions.

I've heard people talk about Ranish. But I don't know if it runs under windows or dos. Check here (http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/) to find out more.

Powerquest only offers a demo version of Partition Magic.
