I want to use a spare 10 gig hard drive in an old P150, but my BIOS won't recognize it. I've tried to install EZ-BIOS, but that won't recognize the drive either.

Linux will load on it, but I can't boot without a boot disk, since my BIOS doesn't see it.

Does anyone know how I can fix it so that I don't need to use the boot floppy?

Perhaps a bios upgrade is available for you? I'm not sure if you checked with the board manufacturer, or the bios manufacturer. That's probably the only thing you can do aside from getting an older drive.

Have you tried Maxtor's version of EZ bios - Maxblastplus? I have found it to be great for breaking hdd size barriers.

It might just work.

LILO wouldn't work if you install it beyond the 8Gb mark, will it?

The newer versions of Lilo do not have the 1024 cylinder limitation anymore.

Of course we do not know what distro/version kevin79 is having the problem with.

Thanks for the help everyone. I got this drive working. I ended up trying a couple alternate jumper settings.

BTW, the problem was with RedHat 7.2
