I've been running LM8 for about a month and just started getting an error. After I type in the password, I get "File size limit exceeded" and su fails. This occurs both in terminal mode and when trying to run gui programs requiring root privelige(of course this just silently fails).

Thanks.

just for curiousity sake

do the following commmand from the command line

df

tell me if any of your partitions are completely full

also, have a poke around in /var/log for any huge files.

i dont know whats wrong but just a couple of pointers, hopefully someone else will be able to help you more than i have

I checked df and no directory is full. Some files in /var/log were large, I pruned them down but no success. I am getting a lot of errors in the files messages, login.log and syslog which look like:

gconfd (d1-1694): Failed to notify listener 385876736, removing: IDL:CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
Does this ring a bell anyone?

Thanks.
