I installed a new hard drive in my system and installed linux on that HD with no problem. I got the hard drive from an old computer that I was using for my linux system but wanted everything in one computer for when I go to school, I can use my linux system also. My first main hard drive in my WD 60gig UDMA100 and the one I installed a WD 4 gig UDMA66. During the boot up it recognizes all the drives and then it says something about ide1="some numbers" then irq=15. I do not know if this is the right irq for what ever device it is for. I have two hd and a CDR and DVD drives.

Thanks for your help!

And the distro you installed? What bootloader are you using, Lilo or Grub?

What exactly is happening and can you post any of the error messages?

I seem to remember seeing suggestions to add 'lba32' to your bootloader configuration file to allow booting to the 2nd hd. Doing a forum search for lba32 may verify this.

I am using Red Hat 7.1 and LILO. I am at work so I do not have the error message with me but will post it when I get home.

Did you set the jumpers to master and slave (dumb question, but I gotta ask)

I believe the jumpers on the second hard drive are at cable select and on the first didnt check but guessed it was at master since it was the only one in the computer. Should I set the jumper to slave on the 2nd hd. Windows works fine. No problems.

Probably wouldn't hurt to jumper them as master and slave to see if it fixes the problem.
