ok, now i'm trying to config my sound card...
using the auto config way, linux detects my sound card (i dont know what it is i think it said ol3xxxx or some crap like that) but i cant hear sound when it tries to test it. So it lets me try to manual config and the problem is I have no idea what all the settings are like interrupt, etc etc, so how do i find out?
i'm in win2k now (incase there is a way to figure out from win2k....)

What distro are you running? If you have a pnp card you may need to use isapnptools - so take a look at what settings your card is using in 2k so you have the needed info when you setup your isapnp.conf.

if it's not isa, isapnp won't work... just a thought. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

i really have no clue what it is...
i think it might be pnp...
or maybe not http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
but thanks for the info...
oh and its redhat 6.2
sndconfig auto-configured the sound card as "ola3..." something...if that means anything to you

Ok............
The windows properties for the sound card and linux properties dont quite match up..
Windows:
Yamaha OPL3-SAx
I/O 0220-022F
i/o 0530-0537
i/o 0388-038F
i/o 0330-0331
i/o 0370-0371
Interrupt request 05 (irq right?)
direct mem access 00 (dma right?)
direct mem access 01
anyways, sndconfig has a tad different setup...cant remember, but it had a few lists like:
00530x
0370
0x64f
some crap like that, in other words, I cant enter my settings the way it has it in windows.
oh, and ille_pugil42:
i dont know what isa is, but the sound card is pnp i guess, cuz thats what sndconfig told me http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
as you can see, i'm not much of a hardware person...

have you tried making the settings in sndconfig that you can match to the windows info? may not need *all* of them to work adequately. for example, use i/o 530, dma 00 and dma 01, irq 5 along with i/o 330 and say irq 2/9 for midi. then test.
if that doesn't work, vary the combo and re-test.
