My modem is connected to the printer port (LP1 in Win****?) Linux Mandrake 8.0 only lets me select a COM port when my external modem is connected to a LP port. I tried ttyS0 (COM 1) anyway. It didn't work. How do I get it to work?

i asked why is it hooked to the parallel port, i am just curious what the good reason is, i will assume you have a good reason, unless you state otherwise

seems that the easier solution is to connect it to the serial port

pz, I just did a search on the last 20 of your posts and have decided that maybe linux does not work for you because you do not have the intelligence to hook an external modem to your serial port and not your parallel port. You have a history of stating that linux does not work, maybe it is time to look at the user.
You also seem to want to know a lot about programming. You show off a large java program then seem to have problems with a simple c program. What is your story? Sounds like a serious troll to me. Forgive me if I am wrong... no nevermind don't forgive me.
