This f...ing cdrom hates me alot

Sound card works (I can play .rm files), cdrom works in win98 (in same computer) but doesn't work in Linux. I set 777 to the cdrom and cd player ponint to /dev/cdrom. what else I missed?

What doesn't work? Playing audio CD's? Reading data CD's? General mounting of the drive?

What else have you tried so far and what are the contents of your /etc/fstab?

Sound card works. I can play .rm files using realplayer 8. cdrom works for data cd, no mounting problem. put audio cd into cdrom, it plays without sound. I have win98 installed in the same computer. the cdrom works fine in win98.

I've never bothered to even try to play a audio CD myself with Linux, so I can just suggest what I've seen others post here.

Have you checked the mixer to ensure the volume is turned up and also nothing is muted?

Have idea what else you missed, had to do it myself. Set up app for playing audio cds so it is linked to /dev/cdrom. ;)
