Hello all and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer....

I have a Compaq Deskpro XE 560 with 40Megs Ram, 1Gig HD, 3Com Etherlink III card and a generic CD-ROM drive.

I managed to install RH 7.1 after a hell of a lot of tweaking of file systems.

I am unable to get the installation process or Xconfigurator to work with the on-board video. SuperProbe reports that it is Compaq QVision /1280 Super VGA with 1 Meg of memory.

I looked at the video chip on the MB and it says ATT 20C505-13C

Does anyone know how to get RH to see this video?

If not, can anyone steer me toward a easy to read doc on setting up RH 7.1 to be a DNS Server using text mode?

Thanks again......

I've installed Linux on quite a few Compaq PC's although not one such as yours. The Compaq's at the office either have the ATI Expert or the Matrox G400 (I got the G400 as an upgrade for our department).

The QVision should be well supported by X.

Have you checked the HCL at Redhat to see if it lists your video card? Or try www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org)

You could try some of the configuration tools available. XF86Setup, Xconfigurator and xf86config.

You could also do a search at Google (http://www.google.com/linux) for QVision 1280 to see if someone has some suggestions.
