I'm, obviously, new to Linux. I laready got rid of my Winmodem and got ahold of a External Zoom 56k. It works, i know this because Linux sees it and dials with it, but it will not connect to my ISP. Currently I am using wvdial on a seperate terminal to connect. The only real difference with wvdial than KPPP is the auto-detect DNS. Is there any way/program that will do this in the KDE enviroment or am I stuck using 2 terminals to surf the net?

like all ISPs u should be able to manully add in the DNS numbers. when u connect u should beable to find out where the DNS numbers are if not just call up ou ISP if they don't have deadheads @ technical support they should be able to tell u the #s (I have had to call AOL /me being a tech for a local ISP and had to deal w/some dumb techs) and then manully added them in (u should be able to view websites& recive/send e-mail) if the number is just not connecting add three commas at the end of the phone# to let the modem pause before dialing. if this also isn't working but u can get connected check this site out. www.spy.net/~dustin/modem (http://www.spy.net/~dustin/modem) this has a database of modems . I use this for tech calls works w/ any OS.
