Im trying to set up my on-board VIA AC'97 sound chip on Mandrake 7.1 but when trying to configure it using DrakConf it finds it as an ISA intead of a sound card and when I try to change the sound card driver to VIA it is not displayed, I know the chip should be supported coz I have the driver on disk but I dont have a clue to installing any thing on Linux unless it an RPM. Please point me in the right direction, as MS has clounded my judgement http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

If you have the Linux driver on diskette, can you not follow the procedures that should be included with it? How about VIA's support website?

There are NHF's here on installing non-rpm software etc.

Sorry, but I am not familiar with VIA and the embedded sound chip, so I can only suggest what I can think of.
