1) How do i put launchers on my desktop. In mandrake 7 i used to be able to right click the desktop and add a new launcher. Now i can't.
2) How do i disable cd-rom auto-run in Gnome?
3) Is there a short cut key for switching windows

To disable the autorun feature open the gnome control center and under peripherals you will see cd properties highlite that and there you can uncheck automatically mount cd roms when inserted and autmoatically start auto-runs

As far as I know for number 3, there is not shortcut that you could go to Windows. You would just have to do a dual boot.

I think he means "switching windows," not "switching to Windows." I'm presuming he means something like alt-tab in Windows, though I don't know a *nix equivalent

If you mean going from gui to terminal outside the gui then it's cntl+alt+F6 and cntl+alt+F to go back.
I wonder how a linux version of windows alt+tab would work since you have multiple desktops. ;)
