I have a Compaq Deskpro:

PII-350
Intel Pentium II w/MMX (Deschutes)
Intel 440BX/ZX MB (4/98 BIOS)
192MB (64MB + 128MB)
5.1GB Quantum Fireball
56Kbs internal modem
NIC Linksys 10/100 model NC100
Compaq P50 15in terminal
Compaq keyboard
generic two button mouse

After reading the many posts concerning not being able to recognize the NIC card or no sound I checked the BIOS of the above and it is one of those that does not feature the ability to turn on or off the PnP OS function.

Other then no NIC and no sound Mandrake 8.2 runs just fine. Dialout Internet works fine as does Gnome. I have the Install floppy that came with the NIC and it has a Linux directory on it with what appears to be a .c file. Do I have to compile here?

Any help tips are appreciated.

Thanks

Run: lspci |less.
If you see the card or its chipset listed in the resulting output, that's a good start.

Your NIC uses the tulip driver, which is already available as a built-in module in your kernel; you don't need to compile the .c source code file.

You can do your network setup (including chosing the tulip driver) via the GUI by opening Mandrake Control Center and navigating to Network and Internet->Connection. Click on the configure button under the LAN configuration section and fill in the blanks.

If you run into trouble, repost with the details, including the exact errors you encountered.
