My poor lil m mouse

I got this "spare" system from a frind - got a new MB and Video card from work (details are not needed) Only prob with the MB, is that it does not have a PS/2 connector. Right now I have a PS/2 Mouse using an adaptor cable to make it serial on COM1. I have tried setting it up as a PS/2 and the device as /dev/ttsy0, /dev/mouse and then I tried setting it up as a serial mouse. Nothing seems to work. If I set it up as /dev/ttsy0 then X errors out with core pointer (ie. the mouse) - I talked with the hardware gurus here at work, and they even said they haven't gotten it to work right -(course that was with Windows)- worst case scenario, I'll go buy a PS/2 plugin for it, but if I can get it working without doing that, then thats what I'll do. Any suggestions?

I could tell you myself, but I'm not at my laptop right now.
