Technically Illiterate

Hello folks.

I have been surfing many "newbie" boards, and have noticed a trend. Alot of these boards/websites are slanted towards people who are microsoft literate. I personally, am in telecom, and am dabbling with my computer(s). I would however like to learn Linux, with the possibility of making a career change in the future. For now, I am content with downloading Mandrake, and playing with it. The problem is, most if not all of the "newbie" sites are fairly technical. Is there a "Linux for dummies" out there?? I tried loading Redhat this weekend, and found I didnt have the answers to alot of the questions being asked while the OS loaded.

Any and all help are greatly appreciated

Dan :)

In my opinion, Mandrake is a decent newbie distro. It helps you get over the inital "How the heck do i set this thing up" syndrome and right onto learning linux. Once you get that far though, It is my belief that you should try another distro and work on the inital setup.

IF you have any questions, no matter how basic, you can normaly always post them here, and they shall be answered (for the most part)

Welcome to the club TI!!!! I'm a Mandrake user and let me tell you that installation went pretty smooth. It super easy to install and since it comes with alot of GUIs, it makes you feel like you are in Windows but.... anyother thing, and I'm clueless.!!

I've been trying to install Mesa (opengl api) to no luck... so I can't program in VTK (visualization stuff) because I don't have Mesa. Opengl games run slow as hell so I tried to update my Nvidia drivers... nothing.!
I fell "impotent" sometimes but... oh well.. at least I get the chance to ask these folks here!!!!
