ACK. I'm running Mandrake 7.0 (7.1 install sees my 32meg TNT2 Ultra as having only 4 megs of RAM>>f*ck that http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif ) w/ Gnome/Enlightenment. I had VMware on here awhile ago, an older version. I uninstalled it using the uninstall script that comes with it. Now i'm trying to reinstall the latest version and I can't! I run the install script as root and is starts, then says

A Previous installation of VMware has been detected. Uninstalling the old version of VMware. SH: ./installer/old-install.pl ; No such file or directory. Failure.. Execution Aborted.

ARGH! I'm pulling my hair out...I don't understand what's wrong or what it's telling me to do.. can't find an FAQ about it or anything, anywhere.....help?

dude, get mandrake 7.2 it should get your video card correct. Then you won't have left over installation files to worry about, and vmware should work.

hi, it seems like the new version automatically looks for the older versions

try installing the older version first and then install the new version!!

Or try deleteing EVERY single file from the old VMware install. There may have been a vmware directory that wasn't deleted because there was a temp file in it or something.

You can try: find / | grep -i "vmware"
To look for old vmware stuff. It might take a little while though.

To the person who suggested that I just get Mandrake 7.2...............ThAnK yOu!!! You rule. I downloaded the .isos last night (blazing speed too, turns out that the university down the road from me is a mirror site http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif ) and installed it this morning. I don't know what exactly is different, but it KICKS ***. Using Gnome/enlightenment, and I can honestly say that when I sat down at the new install, I immediately felt so comfortable with it that I could live without Windows forever. So...........Thanks youuuuu http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
