Hello and thanks for listening:
Just installed 7.1 on a 30GB, 7200 drive on a Celery 400, Abit BH6, 256MBPC100; AWE32; S3Virge; Linksys NIC. The box is a web server with fixed IP hosting a half-dozen sites. I did not enable firewall since I wanted everything working before I began tweaking and everything appears to be except that pings to the box may or may not time out but are very slow, and the websites load very, very slowly. Yet, I can browse the web off the box at lightnight speed. This box and two Windoze machines share a hub (not router) to a cable modem. The box works find when I use my older drive. The only difference is the older drive uses an old 3com NIC which the 7.1 install doesn't see so I pull the 3com and put in the Linksys for that OS on the new drive. The only install issue I found was that on starting httpd, it says it can't determine the hostname so it uses the IP address which I have listed under netcfg. Why would I be able to browse the net from this box at cable speed while at the same time, a Windoze box on my network and a buddy's puter across town are sitting there trying to load the splash page? Has this something to do with the NIC or is something not enabled (or do I need to disable something) on the box? Thanks for any suggestions.

Uh, thanks anyway folks. It was the freakin NIC - another Linksys POS.
