It works alright. You get the console on a different tty, so you can always watch the kernel/boot messages fly by. When I used LPP in conjunction with KDM+X+KDE, I really impressed some long-time Windows users here at work.

It's quite nice as long as the frame buffer support for your card works. You need to do quite some tweaking to some init scripts but they provide defaults for RedHat, SuSE and Debian, I guess, so if your distro is among those it shouldn't be too difficult.

A word of advice: Choose your theme wisely. Changing it requires a kernel compilation.
