Now Linux Mandrake 8.2 won't finish loading. How do I go about reconfiguring the video settings without reinstalling the entire OS all over again.

Thanks

(This is a multi OS machine, so I need to be sure I won't go screwing up the boot manager when I do this.)

What do you mean by "won't finish loading"?

Do you get to a console at all, letting you log in? If so, just run 'Xconfigurator' as root and you should be able to reconfigure your video card settings.

Cheers :)

I'm a big n00b so please try not to laugh too hard when I ask, how do I run 'Xconfigurator' as root?

Basically what happenes when I boot the machine is it goes through the normal boot process of loading everything, then it reaches the localhost login screen, which usually then continues until I get to the desktop. Only now after the 'localhost login:' prompt it pauses for a second then the next lines say

Press <return> to continue.
INIT: Switching to runlevel: 3
INIT: Sending processes the TERM signal

Then the cursor just stays on the blank line below that.

Any ideas what I need to do?

Thanks

Hit <Enter> which should give you a commandline prompt. Then type Xconfigurator. ;)

You may be stranded in X's term... if the above suggestion does not yeild a prompt, hit Alt-Ctl-F1
to switch to the *first* tty ... there are normally 5 or 7 opened (thus F1 through F7)
