Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : What mod does a Netgear FA311 NIC card require?

I have already tried using the tulip driver, but it gives me the following error:

No such device installed.

Hint: Insmod errors can be caused by incorrect bod paramters, including invalid IRQ or IO parameters.

What should I do?

That's because the FA311 isn't a tulip chip, it's an RTL8139 chip.

This is according to this (http://www.expressresponse.com/cgi-bin/progsnp/netgear1/srchjnnp?search_type=vdocument&search_input=N100505.htm&session_id=1020380947.23031.8&search_erproduct=) document, which was found on Netgear's support site. It details some things to try if the downloadable Linux driver doesn't work. Well, the downloadable driver is only for RH 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, and 7.0, so I figured this would be worth a look anyway.

They say a bunch of stuff about your kernel should support the card if it has RTL8139 support, so make sure it does (either builtin or as a module), then if you built it as a module, modprobe it.

Ignore most of the rest of what they say on that page, because whoever wrote it needs lessons on English grammar BADLY. Some of the info is also out of date, plus they assume you use RH and have linuxconf available. It should work, though, if you have the rtl8139 support, and modprobe rtl8139.

The Netgear FA311 uses the NatSemi DP83810 chipset and requires the natsemi module.
