I am looking to download an ISO image of RedHat 7.1. I know nothing much about Linux and am confused when I get to the download site.

I went to www.download.com, (http://www.download.com,) searched for and clicked on RedHat 7.1. That took me to another page that listed various sites from which I am supposed to be able to download RedHat Linux 7.1. Well, I start clicking on the links and the deeper I go the more confused I become. There are file and folder names in there that are confusing to a person coming from a pure-Windows experience.

Can anyone help me with this one? I'm looking for an ISO image of RedHat 7.1. I did manage to find a couple of ISO images; but, because of their names, I'm not sure if I was getting RedHat 7.1 or if I was getting I had no need of.

go to www.linuxiso.org (http://www.linuxiso.org)

they have good instructions (http://linuxiso.org/cdburninginfo.html) for burning the .iso

also be sure and check the .iso after you download it with

md5sum (http://linuxiso.org/md5sum.html)

...better yet, shell out the $3 bucks and buy a CD from linuxcentral.com (http://www.linuxcentral.com) or cheapbytes.com (http://www.cheapbytes.com).

BTW, do I smell the makings of a "ISO NHF"?? I cant tell you how many times I've answered this identical question....

Thanks for all the help. The first RedHat ISO is downloading as I write this.

I have already downloaded Mandrake 8.0 ISOs. I want to go with the most commonly-used brand of Linux so I thought I would get RedHat. After reading a little on the 'net, it seems RedHat and Mandrake are neck-n-neck. Since Mandrake seems to have a reputation for being easier for beginners, I am now sort of drifting back in that direction. Maybe I won't wait on the RedHat. It takes 10 to 14 hours on my Charter.net connection--not the epitome of speed and reliability.

Are there any objective and reliable figures on the prevalence of these releases in the English-speaking world?
