WIll Mardrake 7 work on this machine.

A long time ago i tired to install red hat and foudn it would't work with over 1/2 my hardware so i adbandon linux. I now understand that its changed quite a bit from then and mandrake 7 has some very good hardware compatablity. can you please tell me what on my system will not work in linux.

UrU Fingerprint reader ( i readly don't think this will work sence it don't even work in winME)

Brother 1040 laster printer (can run on old HP drivers too)
Old Intell WEB cam (1st usb model ever i think)
Palm Cradle
Amex Card reader

The about linux is to take chance and see what is works and what do'se not and if not you come here but you want 7.1 for free E-mail me @ override@infomagic.net e-mail is good untill 01/02/01 then ill be cable too

Your best bet is to go to Mandrake's site and look at their hardware list. http://www.linux-mandrake.com

Just from personal knowledge, the most problematic devices I see are the Sidewinder (as I doubt the vioce is going to work in Linux as it does in Windows) Is the thing also a joystick? I remember seeing the product in Best Buy but forget what exactly it is. I know a lot of sidewinder game pads and joysticks are supported in linux so it might work for that.

Someone might have written drivers for the fingerprint reader but I doubt it. A search on http://freshmeat.net will be your best bet.

I also doubt the Amex card reader will work either.

I'm pretty sure the web cam will work, everything else should be fine.
