Hello everybody http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
As I begin my C Programing Classes.I am going to be turning my graphic's station
into a Linux Box.
From What I Have Heard Linux is an enviroment of choice for C Development.
However there are many "Distro's"
out there.
What i am looking for is your thoughts on each of these distros.(slackware7.1,Debian,Suse)
Give Me Pro's/Con's on each one setup For C Development.
For Anybody Wondering About The HardWare.
Duel intel p3 coppermine 800 mhz 133mhz
256mb of pc133 ram

Thanx to Everybody For Your Input In Advance.

Can't help you with your question, because I'm new at this, just wanted to say I like your setup(computer), good luck in your class.

my opinion:
mandrake 7.2 - best installation...easiest.
slackware - if you like editing files and such.
debian - one of the roughest installations.
....
and uh.
that's about it.

this question has been asked 1928.483 times so do a searchfor 'best distro' and you'll find tons of opinions.
i on the other hand have had the most luck with slackware.

Not to mention there is a NHF on this as well...
Anyway, I noticed your video card and I thought I would give you a heads-up on it... I think that for that one, you are gonna need someone else's X server or maybe X 4.x to make your video work right. Someone posted a question about the oxygen cards a few weeks ago here... try searching for it.

if your completely new, i suggest Mandrake 7.1/7.2. if you want to learn linux, go with slackware 7.1.
mandrake does everything for you.
slack you have to set up x on your own, as well as many other features.

I would suggest Mandrake 7.2 because it's the easiest to install and has lots of GUI config tools allowing you to get set-up fast and start doing more productive things besides mucking around with config files. Then on your free time you can explore and learn more about them config files because lets face it you're going to have to learn them sooner or later.
