Greets.

So here's the scenario:

You have this user (me) who wants to use this new operating system (SuSE Linux 7.1) on his box that is currently running....that other OS (micro....something or other :D ). But he's having reservations about installing it, because of his lack of knowledge with his DSL hardware (Intel PRO/DSL 2100 Modem) and software (er...software? Oy...). Does anyone using Linux use this particular model of modem, and if so, could ya help a Newbie get started?

Any help is appreciated (Oh please, PLEASE help me...),

Ramad :D

I'm assuming it is an external modem. You should have no problemn in that case. Do you use dhcp or is your ip static?

"I'm assuming it is an external modem. You should have no problemn in that case. Do you use dhcp or is your ip static?"

DOH! I should have been more descriptive.

The modem is INTERNAL. (cue ominous music)
My ISP is Qwest, and I think they provide a roaming IP, not static. I'm not sure, though. The help desk wasn't all that...helpful. Linux/Unix isn't something that they support. They provide support primarily for...that OTHER OS, a bit for Mac, and were ready to hang up on me when I said the word Linux. Why is that?

Thanks again,

The only thing I can say is try. Dual boot and see if your modem is recognized. You may see if you can find a driver for the modem on intel's site.
