Oh, darn! I guess I should go out and buy a copy of Windows CE Me NT! Hey, it IS a ZDNet article. I wrote an opinion piece for linux.com quite some time ago ("Journalism: Key Ingredient to FUDge", 10 August 2000) that pointed out how ZD is one of the few companies can consistently produce better benchmarks for Micro-{soft,hard}-ware, and their policy on editing talkback replies. Some people thought it was on the money, many thought it was not. But now things seem to be turning, as I rarely see people who act surprised to see "pro-MS/anti-linux" headlines from ZD. It has come to be the norm. And I have always wanted to say this, but I rarely get the chance because I'm wrong so often: I told you so. I told everybody that ZD was the black sheep. And I was informed (among other things) that "Of course they're biased. Their parent company makes lots' of money because of Microsoft." IIRC, I was also told that their parent was in some way contractually tied to microsoft, in a financial way. But I can't say for sure whether that happened without looking up the headline now. And I'm not advertising. If you want it, go looking. :D MandK_10 06-12-2001, 07:30 PM I agree with you guys but isn't this a RANT? Keep up the good work. Do we really have to have EVERY ZDNet "Linux isn't ready for the desktop" article posted here?? They do 2-3 of them a week, and they're all basically same. I get enough angry vitriol about rehashed ZDNet anti-Linux articles by reading Slashdot. Heck, even Slashdot has stopped linking to more than 1 or 2 of them a month. Maybe a dedicated forum for them? I still want a dedicated forum where people post "Hey look at this!!" links to mslinux.org, but the two could be combined into one new forum... Droo 06-12-2001, 08:34 PM I apologize for the sarcasm, but yes I'm kind of tired of seeing this stuff too. I think it started with this one (http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/opinions/3387/1/) and has been regurgitated ever since. There's really nothing further to add on this one...Linux is dead. Yada yada yada. Move along. Craig McPherson 06-12-2001, 09:57 PM Actually, "Linux is Dead" first started in 1992 (see my "milestones" post in rants) "Linux on the Desktop ["is dead"/"isn't really"/"will never happen"/"is almost ready"] only started in 1995-1996 when people started to ponder if Linux could actually be a viable desktop for "normal" people. Whenever somebody says "Linux will never be ready for the desktop", what they're really saying is "Linux will never be ready for MY desktop." Which is probably true, but quite frankly I care more about MY desktop than THEIR desktop. lsibn 06-12-2001, 10:05 PM Originally posted by Craig McPherson: Whenever somebody says "Linux will never be ready for the desktop", what they're really saying is "Linux will never be ready for MY desktop." From now on, I think we should all say that "Windows will never be ready for the desktop." :D Strike 06-12-2001, 11:35 PM Originally posted by FoBoT: yes, strike musta gone to see another movie, what a slacker, sigh  Actually, I did :p Guess I'll move it to rants. justlinux.com
