RedHat is still available for free by downloading the ISO files. When you buy the product you get the CDs along with printed manuals and a limited amount of support from the vendor. Paying for a Linux distro is not a bad and evil thing, since this helps those companies to stay alive. However, their main source of income is usually from customers paying for support etc. justlinux.com
