I set up my internet connection and got apache working except for a couple of problems. I would like to set it up so if you go to domain.com/~user it will load the public_html dir if that users folder. However I get a 403 forbidden error when I try to access it. How do I set it up? I think it is a probelm with the <directory> settings but oh well.
I also download nmap to see what ports I have open and the output is as follows:
Port State Service
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http 111/tcp open sunrpc
443/tcp open https 1024/tcp open kdm 6000/tcp open X11
I get the same thing when scanning 127.0.0.1 as my I.P. I don't think I need SSH right now so I would like to turn it off as well as sunrpc as I have no clue what that is. I think 1024 and 6000 shouldn't be vieable to the out side so I need to know how to turn on my firewall.
The only thing that needs to be viewable from the out side is the FTP port as I am going to run FTP and apache. Port 443 I would also like to close unless I can use SSL for free (no certificate or anything).
Can someone recomend a good FTP deamon? I think I heard the ProFTPD is good. I would like to set it up so a user can connect to FTP with there user name and password and ONLY access there home directory and its subfolders. Then when they went to domain.com/~user they will see what is in there public_html dir. They should also be able to use the normal dir above public_html as storag but not have it accessable by the web. Anonymous login should be off.
The only other thing I would like to run is nessus inorder to make sure that my system is secure enough so that a stupid script kiddie won't hack it. I tried loading the rpms but get an error.
My goal is to have a secure box used as a webserver where user can upload only view FTP. I should be able to access the /home/httpd/html dir as well by FTP.
I run redhat 7.1 on a P3 1GHZ.
If anyone can answer any of my questions that would be really great.
Thanks, :D

P.S. Don't email the listed email, I don't check it anymore. I am going to change it after I post this.
P.P.S. Anyone know when themes.org is going to be back? Is there another good source for KDE 2.1.1 themes?
