After successfully reconfiguring my winmodem to work with Linux, I have the simple problem of not being able to use the Netscape Browser. I connect to my ISP, select Netscape Navigator from my menu bar, enter a URL and I immediately get a error message. The message says it cannot reach any of the URL's I type in. Also upon starting Netscape I get some messages that say it cannot find certain files. I'm using
RH 7.2 on a notebook. Thanks

Do you have any other web-browser installed?

You probably have Mozilla installed if you did a typical install of RedHat 7.2

Use the run command on the foot/KDE menu to start Mozilla.

Also open up a terminal and try pinging somewhere:
ping -c 4 63.236.73.208

That's the IP for LNO

Yes I have tried mozilla and the other Gnome browser (can't remember the name). With all, everytime I enter a URL, the result is the same..."can't open/find <A HREF="http://www.whatever.com"." TARGET=_blank>www.whatever.com".</A> I didn't think to try to ping anything yet, I'm gonna try that and see if I can even get out.

Did you add your isp's dns servers to /etc/resolv.conf?

domain your_isps_domain
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # dns 1
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # dns 2

Tried pinging LNO. Got "4 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% lost"

Just on the off chance that it may be related, do you have any firewall software running? If so, you might want to try disabling it temporarily and then checking to see if you can talk to your web sites..

So your dns servers are setup correctly in /etc/resolv.conf and it still won't work, ping included?

Do you have a firewall set up (incorrectly)that is blocking outgoing pings?
Check your logs.
I am assuming you are in Windows now on the same setup, so you can't have a hardware problem.
Try disabling your firewall for a few secs and try pinging again.
As for the opening of web sites, as WattsMD says, it sounds like your DNS entries in the resolv file.
Try dig "your dns address" to see if you get any info on the name servers
