help please

i don't know if you can help me but please if you can.

i use PPC Linux. GNOME/enlightenment. i have done something to it that i am unable to display my panel. when i boot up the box, i get a message saying " i detect another panel running, do you wish to start another? the other panel will not be restored" or similar.

i cannot get the original panel back up. i did stuff around with auto hide but i can't back track my exact steps.

thanks for any help

hello,
unless you had a bunch of customized stuff on the desktop i just do a rm -rf ~/.gnome and all the defaults get restored.

Yeah, that'll work, here's perhaps another possibility. Open a term and type panel &. Using THAT panel, you can set up other panels and their properties. Also, rather than rm the .gnome stuff, try moving it to another name. In this way, it will construct the defaults, but, you may be very successful in moving stuff back out of the renamed dir, into the new one just built. This has saved me a lot of time, the several times I have screwed the thing up completely. Here's another: Once you get it like you want it, CP all the entire .gnome stuff someplace safe, so you can recover the thing. HTH, Ray
