Howdy...

You may recall I posted asking if I could run a gateway/firewall on a 486 (laptop), I have now obtained a Pentium 100/40meg Ram/800meg HD/etc... if you really want to see the exact specs, here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1321648922&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1011337532&indexURL=0&rd=1). it was an absolute bargin (prolly about US$108)... but anyway....

Its a Pentium 100... whats the minimum requirements to be able to run a GUI. I wont necessarily want to run my gateway with a GUI, but it'll be nice to know I have the option later on down track. Just asking, mainly for the sake of knowing...

It is possible to run a GUI on a 486, assuming you can get Xfree onto the disk. With a Pentium it should be OK, just don't use KDE or GNOME, go for something lightweight, and don't expect StarOffice or Netscape to fly!!

Icewm is a good WM for low-power systems. Many also like Blackbox.
