Hi. Today I installed Red Hat 7.1. on a box. (Actually, I installed it a couple of times.) According to the documentation from RedHat.com, by default there should be a symlink on the desktop to my home folder... among other things. There isn't. In fact, I cannot find any file manager at all. I can't launch Konquerer thru KDE. I cannot find GMC thru Gnome. I thought I had missed the installation of some crucial files during the first install, so I installed everything next time around. Still no desktop items... but a lot of bloat! I tried using a right click on the desktop to add symlink (as indicated in the gnome documentation), but the right click didn't work. Right clicking works on the panel, however, so I don't think the mouse is involved. How do I correct this problem? I don't want to rely only on command line. Ellie.

Look in /etc/skel This is the skeleton folder from which all users get their base /home/<user> files. You should have the workings of a user there complete with Desktop folder and icons and app.links and all sorts of goodies. If you dont then somehow your etcskel-1.x.x.rpm did not get installed. I would look for it at RedHat don't use the one off your cdrom as it has already failed on you twice!

Yeah... it was the cd-rom. I downloaded a new image, and voila... it worked. Thanks.
