They released gnome 1.4 today. You can download it if you want to.You can get it for LM 7.x.LM 8.0 suppose to come with gnome 1.4.But when I looked around on ximian website,I ran into a confusing situation. On the website http://www.ximian.com/desktop/faq.php3 where it says Which systems will you support next? They said LM 8.0 and SUSE 7.1 will be supported next. What does that mean.If LM 8.0 has gnome 8.0 why did that website say that and does Mandrake's gnome 1.4 has all the app s that shows up on ximian does.I know it has some of the apps listed on http://www.ximian.com/desktop/index.php3 But does Mandrake's gnome 1.4 have RedCarpet.I would appreciate any help that somone could give me on explaining the difference. And I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site to use gnorpm for mandrake. When I use fr.rpmfind.net/linux/RDF and rpmfind.net/linux/RDF they dont have anything for LM 7.2 or LM 7.1

Thank You,

The gnome that comes with Mandrake must not be ximian gnome then. That's the only logical explanation to that.

It isn't.. There is a discussion here about GNOME vs. XIMIAN GNOME.. I remember reading it.. Perhaps a search will find it.

MDK 8.0 has GNOME 1.4 which was released at the tail end of March, beginning of April. Ximian (formerly HelixCode, founded Miguel de Icaza, one of the primary GNOME coders) GNOME is just an easy to install version that one can get regular updates, kinda like apt-get. The Ximian FAQ (http://www.ximian.com/desktop/faq.php3) should detail better. Right now, if you have MDK 8.0, you will have as new of a GNOME version as if you had Ximian GNOME. In a few weeks to months as new bugfixes, updates and so on get incorporated into Ximian GNOME, it will be more upto date than the GNOME in MDK, though that can be fixed by the Software update tool in MDK and/or downloading from Cooker.
