Hello everyone.

I am wondering about some software and its availability in Linux. I browse the web an awful lot and these days a lot of things require quicktime and/or realplayer. In Linux I feel very restricted. Is there an alternative?

Also, what movies players are good for Linux? I mainly play .mpeg and .mov and rarely .asf.

And, if there is such software, is it available in a Debian package? Thanks to everyone who responds. I feel as if this is one of Linux's downfalls. Not enough multimedia support that is.

Check out Tucows.com. They have a pretty good list of multimedia type items.

For mpeg you can use smpeg, or gtv. Check Loki (http://www.lokigames.com/development/smpeg.php3) for the player. You'll have to install SDL (http://www.libsdl.org) to use it.

For quicktime, you can use xanim. Go to http://xanim.va.pubnix.com/home.html to get it.

Also, check out Plugger (http://freshmeat.net/redir/plugger/8170/url_homepage/) for netscape, it does a pretty good job with multimedia stuff.
