wtf? if i boot into linux, it goes to section "configuring network" hangs there for about 15 seconds then says "failed" and boots into linux... --AND I HAVE NO INTERNET!!!

i can reboot as many times as i want and it will fail and fail... but if i boot into windows, then select: start -> shutdown -> restart. and then boot into linux... wala, works like a champ.

again WTF? I have roadrunner, you think only windows is initializing the modom? but modom is on 24/7 ... ????

The modem you're using might need to be initialized somehow, maybe the same way as the roadrunner/@home ones did.
Try doing a forum search in networking or general for "roadrunner initialize modem" or "@home initialize modem" or something like that.
