I'm an old linux newbie who has been away from the scene for a few years. I decided to install Mandrake 8.0 on a previous machine I had lying around (PIII 450, 128mb ram), but I am having some trouble. I downloaded the iso and burned it to disk. The disk seems to be ok. When I insret the disk to boot from cdrom I get to the opening Mandrake screen: (Press <F1> for options or <Enter> to install). I press Enter and installation starts, lot of scrolling, it detects my hard drive and such. But then I get "error! Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk" WTF is that? It won't go any further than that. I am clueless as to what's going on. Can anyone help me out. I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Use the LNO Forum Search (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search). The question comes up quite often, and I think you'll find that answers have been posted several times in the past. Just enter "second stage ramdisk" as your search criteria.
