I just installed Mandrake 7.1 this past weekend. I have DSL running with PPPoE and I seem to be getting the hang of things all right... There is one thing that keeps bugging me though. On my login screen Mandrake has named my computer "localhost" During the install program for Mandrake, I wasn't given the option to set that.... I've been poking around trying to figure out where I might be able to change that... any suggestions?
thanks...

use HOSTNAME to change it, or edit a rc file in /etc/rc.d (sorry at work, not near any linux friendly box - can't remember.)

Or, have u tried using linuxconf, and setting it there?

I had the same problem, and setting HOSTNAME will not do the trick... it will change it temporarily but not permanently, so edit:
/etc/sysconfig/network
There's a line in there that says "hostname" just set it to whatever you want to call your linux box and your all set...
Good luck and Have FUn,,,

Edit the file /etc/hostname. Simple as that!

to correct prev post.
/etc/HOSTNAME in caps that is. /etc/hostname will not exist.
/etc/sysconfig/network should correspond with /etc/HOSTNAME
good luck
