Ok first of all I will explain my aim..

I have a 486 DX4 here which i intend to run as webserver. No problems doing that.

But each time I install a distro I get errors in my superblock which prevent it from booting... But I have tried many distrobutions on it and all have had to same problem. At the moemnt it's SuSE7.1..

I have run e2fsck with no luck... And I have honestly run out of ideas..

So you have any sparks?

Thanks

I'm guessing there's a problem with your harddrive. Try replacing it and see what happens.

Give us some system specs (specifically the type of hard drive).

1. Can you do a low-level format successfully? If you have bad blocks, that should remap them.

2. If you're using an older version of a drive overlay (such as EZ-Drive or On-Track), you may need to upgrade it. See the Large Disk HOWTO (http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Large-Disk-HOWTO.html) for more info on this.

3. If your box is a Compaq, be aware that some (all?) old Compaqs stored system/startup utilities in a special partition on the hard drive, instead of storing them in ROM. This has caused hassles for people in the past. A Google search for "Compaq AND LILO" will yield a lot of results and probably a solution.
