Drake 8 refuses to see my SCSI/Yamaha CDRW at all, not even as a CDROM. However, all of my hardware is supported flawlessly by Drake 7.2 which is also installed on another partition.
On the SCSI bus there is an 40x NEC CDROM, the 8x4x24 Yamaha, and an IBM hard disk. Only the Yamaha is not detected.

Well, I have a Yamaha SCSI CDRW (8x4x24) too, and it was detected just fine under Mandrake 8. Is your fstab in 8 is the same as the one in 7.2?

I have tried it 7-ways-to sunday. Thanks for the reply, and yes, of course I checked fstab (I usually setup my drives not to use supermount) but this drive is not even detected on install by the SCSI module. It reports the module/driver used by Drake 7.2 but it is not working properly.
Every other even remotely current Linux distro has no problems seeing the drive. I may have to try another SCSI adapter.

Okay, I have solved this - sort of; I'm convinced that there is a problem in the advansys scsi module in Drake 8. To work around this I have added an Adaptec 2930 adapter to the system and transfered the CDROM and CDRW drives to it and left the IBM hard disk on the Advanced System controller -I had to reinstall Drake 8 but all the drives are now properly recognized.
What did they do to foobar the advansys module?
