After stopping time and a time again, my Linux Mandrake 7.2 installation finally went through. I went on my knees and thanked heaven. Gleaming with anticipation I turned on my computer. Linux booted up.. and stopped. Right about after the line Code: f2 ae.. 8b. Any ideas as to what I should do? Do I need to uninstall the whole thingy and try again? I'm using the Swedish Linux for Windows version.. any help/tips/shoves in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

I don't know if this applies to Mandrake; I use OpenLinux eDesktop. The instructions I got were to: first use the Windows installation CD to get things started (partitioning the hard disk and formatting the partition), then switch to the binaries and installation CD to install OpenLinux. Does Mandrake come with two CD's, in the manner of OpenLinux? You may have to do something similar.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hi

Right. First off, i need a bit more information. Im not familiar with the line

Code: f2 ae 8b

so i want to know if it was after the line

LILO:

or

Loading.............................

If it was then your kernel is failing to boot for some reason.
Seems as yor fairly new, all I can suggest is that you change your distribution, to something like Redhat. It seems to me that the stock kernel that came with the installation disks is incompatable with your hardware.

Its just a guess tho. In my head if the kernel cant boot, its incompatable with your hardware.

Ive never used mandrake, so I dont know how you would change the stock kernel.

Maybe some Mandrake guru could help?

After stopping time and a time again,

Damn. This was happening to me with Redhat 6.2. Almost everytime it came to partitioning the root directory, it would just stop indefinitely, while it tryed to partition /.

But then I seen the light and changed to debian. :D
